Community Planning Alliance
Local green spaces across the UK are facing increasing pressure from housing, infrastructure, and commercial development proposals. We support the Community Planning Alliance (CPA), an organisation where hundreds of community groups have come together to campaign for the protection of parks, countryside, Green Belt land, wildlife habitats, and other valued local green spaces.
The CPA argues that planning reforms and development targets could lead to the loss of important natural areas unless stronger environmental protections and greater community involvement are maintained. The alliance highlights concerns about the cumulative impact of development on nature, biodiversity, climate resilience, and community wellbeing, while advocating alternatives such as prioritising brownfield land, bringing empty properties back into use, and improving the reuse of existing buildings before green spaces are developed.
