Why Ryebank Fields Matters
- 120 homes proposed on the site, MMU's planning application (Ref: 142223/FO/2025) would permanently destroy this green space
- 1,400+ trees at risk, the site has extensively rewilded since MMU abandoned it in 1996 and is now a thriving natural woodland
- The last major rewilded green space in South Manchester, within a 15-minute walk of 25,000 residents
- A community asset, used daily by local people for walking, wildlife watching, and connecting with nature
PLANNING APPLICATION REF: 143413/fo/2025
On 17 February 2026, Manchester City Council (MCC) confirmed that our community-led and funded planning application to protect Ryebank Fields as a woodland and meadow was ready to be considered by the Planning Committee. Since then, we have made several requests to MCC seeking clarification on the timetable and confirmation of the committee meeting date at which our application will be determined. Below is a copy of our most recent email to Julie Roscoe, Director of Planning, Building Control and Licensing at MCC. As soon as the Planning Committee date is confirmed, we will share the details on our website and social media channels. Thank you once again for your patience, encouragement, and continued support. Your commitment to protecting Ryebank Fields remains invaluable, and we will keep you updated as soon as further information becomes available.
